HYC members Todd Giraudo and David White are completing final preparations for the longest race they have ever attempted...
The biennial Fremantle to Bali Ocean Classic is one of Australia’s longest international ocean races and gets underway from Fremantle this Saturday, 6 May. The race will again be in two classes with racing yachts competing in IRC and PHS divisions and rally boats competing in the Rally division.
Skipper Todd expects to take 10 Days to compete the 1,440 miles to the finishing point off Benoa Harbour, Bali. Todd & David will sail Kraken, their fast 11 metre yacht with a few alterations to ensure they go the distance. A water maker has been added and the food planned doesn't exactly match the gourmet meals they are accustomed to.
With 14 yachts entered, 7 racing and 7 in the rally division, we wish Todd & David the best of luck in the race!
Each yacht will be fitted with a tracker device so those interested can follow the progress of the race and support the HYC crew from a distance!
To access the tracker, and for more information on the race, head to Fremantle Sailing Club's website.
**UPDATE 15 May 2017: Todd Giraudo and his crew “Dubbo” White sailing 2 handed finished in Bali early this morning, being 3rd over the line and 2nd on IRC for this HYC 36’ double handed boat! Kraken is the smallest of the race boats to arrive in Bali and as we celebrate this tremendous achievement Todd and David, they will be busily preparing for the Melbourne to Osaka race next year! Well done Kraken!
