Sailors at 596 venues in 80 countries numbered close to four thousand as once again they competed in Bart’s Bash, the largest global simultaneous yacht race.
Aimed at remembering Americas Cup sailor Andrew (Bart) Simpson and raising funds for the Foundation, Hillarys Yacht Club sailors look forward to the annual event.
On Sunday, in contrast to the winter races, brilliant sunshine and a ten knot westerly was ideal for the combined start of keelboats and various classes of dinghies. After passing through the timing gate (for international result calculations) at one kilometre, they went on their separate courses and headed back to the finish line.
The Australian contingent of sailors numbered third behind the UK and South Africa and Hillarys Yacht Club was a significant contributor here in the West.
