Day 2 of the North Coast Series, Sunday December 8th 2019
The battle between Hillarys Yacht Club and Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club continued with day two of the North Coast Series held in the waters off Mullaloo beach last Sunday.
For twenty one yachts in two divisions racing on a windward-leeward course in a southerly of fifteen knots it was a case of the yachts who made the least mistakes with the starts and spinnaker runs prevailing. Three retirements and two over the line at the start were testimony to that.
The Etchells of Ocean Reef served them well with Stump Jumper (Shane Irwin), Whim A Way (Mick Caulfield) and Leda (Frank Centa) one, two, three across the finish line and first, second and third on handicap in race one, division one. The next seven yachts were from HYC; Perle, Hard Evidence (Marshall Fox, Gail and Des Riley) and Sally Malay (Ian Walker) the best of them. In race two, Hillarys fought back with Perle first and Sally Malay second and Hard Evidence fourth. Ocean Reef scored with Whim A Way third and Leda fifth.
In division two Volant (Emille Janssen, John Ball, Frank Hagemann, Kevin Meta) won both races for Hillarys. Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) was second in race one with Catabatic (Rob Bills) and Covert Operation (Graham Atkinson and Bart Brouwer) well placed.
For Ocean Reef Alan Peacham on Feelin Free was third in both races and Panache (Geoff and Rita James) was second and fourth, snuffing out any chance Hillarys had of reducing the lead Ocean Reef established on day one.
At the end of day two, Ocean Reef had extended their lead to 27 points however with three days of racing remaining, Ocean Reef cannot lock their trophy away for another year just yet.
