All members are advised of the sudden passing of The Honourable James George (Jim) Clarko AM EA JP on the 7th April aged 87. Mr Clarko represented the State electorates of Karrinyup and Marmion from 1974 to 1996 as a Liberal Party member and also served as Speaker in the Legislative Assembly and Government Whip. He was our patron for a number of years and until recently was a regular attendee with his wife Edith on our opening days.

Jim Clarko

Jim will be remembered for his passion to ensure that the younger generation had the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of  sport with his inaugural parliamentary speech including the excerpt  ” A politician thinks of the next election, a statesman of the next generation”  and a true statesman is certainly what he was, both in his public and private life.

On behalf of all the members and Flag Officers we extend our sincere condolences to  wife Edith and family members. RIP

Paddle on Water is coming! Thanks to the vision of Lynda Bailey we are about to see the introduction of a new activity group that will be part of HYC and inspire members to enjoy another aspect of water activity. Lynda tells me that the concept is to be open to all members who have either a kayak or stand up paddle board who wish to be part of the group. The key message is PARTICIPATION!PARTICIPATION!PARTICIPATION! As part of supporting the group the storage area in the future will be fitted out with racks (thanks to Rear Commodore Graham Townsend and the kind generosity of our major sponsor Minprovise) to provide easy access to members who are participating on a regular basis.

Some of the expectations on members will include:

  • Support HYC by attending POW social events
  • Maintain safety guidelines as outlined by HYC
  • Participate regularly in organised paddles
  • Assist in the removal of plastics from the marina
  • Annual fee for upkeep of storage facility
  • Have fun!

We wish Lynda and her inaugural group all the success in commencing a group that will instil the esprit de corps into an area that has the ability to become a major part of our water activities both on and off the water. Good luck Lynda and you have our full support! Currently she is working with Rear Commodore Mark Taylor to prepare a business case for the Management Meeting and should you be interested in joining or assisting the group you can contact Lynda at baileylc@hotmail.com

WANTED: Any member who knows where HYC can get a couple of trucks of mulch at a reasonable price please let me know so that we can get the busy bee going around the front and carpark area of HYC!

Fred Gere, Commodore HYC
