Once again a reminder that the 2020 AGM has been delayed until 13 September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently we do not anticipate any further delays being that a detailed recovery roadmap has been rolled out by the State Government.

The last few weeks has seen a significant change to HYC both internally and externally with a lot of preparation being undertaken so that we can be on the front foot when we start operating again on the 18th May 2020.

My very special thanks goes to Graham Townsend and his Team from MINPROVISE who went above and beyond the volunteer level to beautify our lawn, gardens, trees and the Junior Club House. The week was a hive of activity and you can all see the result as you enter the Club. A big HIGH FIVE to MINPROVISE for an outstanding achievement. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Ash from Coastal Roofing for donating all the material to replace the gutters and other components that had succumbed to the elements and not forgetting Pinky for supplying the lawn dressing.

A special thanks also to the Food and Beverage staff that had to endure an abrupt end to their casual and part time jobs on 23 March 2020 but bounced back and contributed to cleaning and more cleaning,  re-arranging furniture and fittings – a big thank you to you all and especially Bianca and her numerous blackboards clearly outlining the tasks that are needed to be done. Your enthusiasm and dedication in doing all this non Food & Beverage duties has been an inspiration to us in knowing that we will come out of this better and more focused than ever in providing a safer environment for all of our members.

Damo and his staff are busy preparing the menus for our opening with a clear focus on freshness and locally sourced produce. A couple of sneak previews include the availability of continually changing fresh seafood, vegetarian dishes, the famous Donga Burger on a plate and maybe even gravy with the chips!

Members are advised that there is a potential for disruptions to entry and service when the club re-opens due to capacity restrictions and preparation of areas to prevent cross contamination. There will be a requirement to comply with government restrictions, venue policies and procedures and we ask in advance for your support, patience and understanding as we are all in this together.

Support your Club with the CUB incentive of “LOVE YOUR LOCAL” which gives you the chance to buy a pint with CUB donating another pint for each purchase giving you two for the price of one. The incentive is for Carlton Dry which will be available for purchase until 6 October 2020 and the voucher will be valid for 3 years from the purchase date. View more information on this initiative here.

A special thanks to John and Sue Hammond (Member 0540) who due to personal circumstances have regretfully decided not to renew their membership. John and Sue have been dedicated early members who suspended their membership in 1986 as John was posted to the ZUK but eagerly re-joined on their return in 1990. On behalf of all our members and staff we thank you both for your dedication and loyalty to HYC and we wish you all the best for the future. I would like to include a part of the moving email sent to me from John which I am sure he will not mind me doing –“I want to place on record my wife Sue and my appreciation to the Club and its members and staff that have enjoyed Sue’s company”.

The light finger brigade has been active around the Club in the past weeks with the theft of fuel lines from one of the club boats and the removal/theft of a trailer owned by the Finnigan Family. The trailer is a Jet Ski trailer with white wheel arches and had the licence plate 1TUD409. We are currently reviewing CCTV footage and the police have been notified -so if you have inadvertently taken it then please return it!

Live onboard is governed by the Marina Facilities Bylaws under Clause 12 which allows a limited number of financial ordinary members to live onboard to protect the amenity, environment and improve the security of the Club precinct. The application MUST be approved by the Management Committee and is deemed to be a privilege NOT a right of membership. A member who stays on board in excess of six consecutive days or over 10 calendar days per month is deemed to be living on board.

There has been an increase in members permanently living onboard who have not made  application or provided the application for approval by management. If you have not submitted an application to-date It would be appreciated if you can comply with the bylaws and submit an application as soon as practicable.

The Ospreys are back in the Hillarys Marina and Brian Meade managed to capture them bathing at the Dinghy ramp. Members are requested to avoid approaching or disturbing them when they are within the club precinct.  Thank you Brian for sharing the photos and I am sure that some of them will end up in the Dive Section Photography Competition.

Stay Safe on and off the water!
