Today is Remembrance Day, and I urge all members to observe one minute’s silence to remember those who died or suffered Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts. To our members who served and those that continue to serve, we thank you.

They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

Well, Brad has well and truly immersed himself into the role of General Manager with subtle but much-needed changes being implemented that immediately improved the way we deliver our services and meet the needs of our members. I have seen Brad at the Club at various times and days, and I am sure that most of you have had the opportunity to have a quick chat with him.

A friendly reminder that our Members Lounge is currently open on Fridays between 4-9 pm (pending any large function that will require additional space) and you are all welcome to enjoy a drink with limited snack food available. As explained on several occasions and through various communication channels, the repairs and replacement of equipment in the upstairs kitchen together with difficulty in engaging quality chefs has reduced our ability to provide meals at this location on a more permanent basis. This is not a quick fix, and I ask members to be patient and support the Club during our roadmap to recovery.

The 2020 Festive Season is well and truly approaching us at great speed, and our staff are busy with many events that will occur well and truly into the new year. There are several HYC Members Only Functions that are filling fast, and you will need to secure your bookings as early as possible to avoid disappointment. These include the following events:

• Cluedunnit Saturday 21 November 2020 6.30-10.30pm
• The Commodores Cocktail Party Saturday 28 November 2020 6.30-10.30pm
• HYC Section & Members Xmas Extravaganza Friday 11 December 2020 6-10 pm
• HYC Children’s Xmas Party Sunday 13 December 2020 12-3 pm
• New Years Eve “Glitter & Glam” 31 December 2020 7 pm-1 am

There have been some issues arising on our ability to provide meals promptly during busy nights. Please understand that we have moved from delivering quick pre-prepared food to meals that are prepared daily from fresh local produce that require that little bit of more time to prepare. I am sure you all agree that our sourcing of fresh local and sustainable produce is a massive step that HYC has taken and to maintain this we ask for your cooperation when booking your table.

The most significant impact on our staff is that members are arriving late and not seating until some time later which creates a pinch point when the next allocated members arrive which in turn has a knock-on effect for the rest of the bookings. Please ensure that you and your guests are seated and ready to order as close as possible to your booking time and we will be working towards solutions that will reduce this issue soon.

Due to the success of the October membership drive, HYC will continue to offer the reduced nomination membership fee until the end of 2020 before a review is undertaken with a Special General Meeting requested if deemed appropriate. Currently, new memberships continue to grow with current members have recommended a significant number, and we are grateful and appreciative to you. The 53 new members inducted last month are set to be joined by approximately another 35 new members who will be interviewed and ratified at the November Management Committee. We extend a warm welcome to you all and look forward to seeing you down at the Club.

Some members have raised the issue that the Constitution on the web has not been updated and still reflects the 2019 version. After discussion with Aiman, it has been established that the culprit is our old web site that has yet to be
decommissioned due to matters beyond our control. If you Google ‘HYC Constitution” it will bring up the old version of the Constitution. To ensure that you get the latest version please go to the HYC webpage, click on “Our Club”, then “Publications” and scroll down the page until you reach the heading “Virtual Office” and then click on “Constitution” which will open up the latest version.

We are still receiving inquiries from members about the fuel facility as recently as Sunday. I remind members that HYC handed back the facilities on the 1st of September 2020 and as such are no longer responsible for the facility. Any inquiries should be directed to Mel McGrath on 0400157153 or the new contact numbers displayed at the Fuel Facility.

The 2021 review of our Strategic Plan and the commencement of an Annual Business Plan is gathering momentum, and we are on track for this to take effect from our new financial year with several key workshop dates being planned in the coming months. I ask that if you are invited to attend, please make the time available as your input is vital to our future roadmap.

Work on the Q Jetty fix, and R Jetty repairs are starting to take shape, and while there will be some disruption to pen occupants during this time, we will work with you to ensure that this is kept to a minimum.
