Arthur (Bill) William Mott
03.07.1942 – 09.08.2021
With great sadness, I advise our members of the passing of Arthur (Bill) William Mott, Hillarys Yacht Club (HYC) Foundation and Life member who continually contributed to the development of the Club since its inception.
His passion for sailing started several years before the formation of HYC, spending time sailing on the Swan River, however on the 1st of May 1986, he joined HYC as a Foundation member. On purchasing his beloved S&S 34 LADY ANNE, Bill constantly sailed on the WA coast and participated in the Fremantle to Bali Race.
He joined the HYC Keel Start Team in 2006, becoming a regular member, and in 2010 he was part of the HYC Race Management Team participating in the 2011 World Championships sailed off Fremantle. As always, Bill remained cool under pressure, reliable and thoughtful of others.
Bill served as a Trustee for many years, and it was an honour for the Club to bestow him as a Life Member in 2008. He was the History Custodian and spent several years researching and preparing an in-depth report providing a much-needed update on the Club’s history.
One of Bill’s other passions was Cricket, and we all soon learnt that rostering him for a Yacht Race required him first to check the Cricket fixtures!
I had the privilege of working with Bill in the Western Australian Police Force and saw him rise to the rank of Assistant Commissioner. He was a great leader amongst his peers and an officer, and a gentleman to all who had the opportunity to work with him.
Our sincere condolences to Kerryn, Fiona, Ainslie, Ryan, and respective family members on their sad loss.
The Funeral Service to Honour the Life of our Foundation and Life Member Arthur (Bill) William Mott will be conducted in the West Chapel of Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, Whitfords Avenue Padbury, commencing at 10:30 am Friday 20 August 2021.
All current and past Flag Officers attending the funeral are requested to wear their Square Rig as per Clause 10.2 of the Clubhouse By-Laws.
The Australian Flag and HYC Burgee will be flown at half-mast at the Hillarys Yacht Club on Friday 20th August 2021 as a mark of mourning and respect.
Sunset and evening star, and after that the dark.
The stars are there to guide you as you set sail on the final mark.
The ripple in the water will tell of the tale
of how much we miss you as we all raise the sail.
Life’s race has been run, and peace, your reward, for eternity begun.
And we that are left shall never forget,
Rest in peace, friend and colleague, for the sun has now set.
We will remember
We will remember (All)
Hasten the dawn.
