Why Volunteer for the Management Committee or a Subcommittee?
At Hillarys Yacht Club, our greatest asset is not our marina, clubhouse or facilities; it is our members.

For more than 40 years, HYC has thrived because members have stepped forward to contribute their time, ideas and expertise through the Management Committee and our many active subcommittees, including Angling, Keelboat, Power, Dive, Sailing, Events and other special interest groups.

As we approach the Annual General Meeting and Committee elections, I encourage members to consider nominating for a leadership role within our Club.

Make a Difference
Serving on the Management Committee or a subcommittee provides a genuine opportunity to shape the future of HYC. Whether your passion is boating, fishing, diving, events, youth development, member services or governance, your contribution can help improve the Club for current and future generations.

Many members are surprised to discover how much influence a small group of dedicated volunteers can have on the direction and success of the Club.

Develop New Skills and Networks
Committee service is also personally rewarding. Members gain valuable experience in leadership, governance, strategic planning, finance, project management and decision-making.

You will work alongside experienced professionals, business owners, community leaders and fellow boating enthusiasts, building friendships and networks that often last a lifetime.

A Manageable Commitment
One of the most common misconceptions is that committee service requires a significant time commitment.

In reality, most Management Committee and subcommittee members contribute approximately one to two hours per week on average, including meetings, reading papers and occasional events.

Importantly, our volunteer leaders are supported by a professional management team and staff who undertake the day-to-day operation of the Club. Committee members focus on providing direction, ideas, oversight and member representation, while management is responsible for implementation and operational delivery.

Give Something Back
Many of us have enjoyed years of friendships, memorable events, sailing adventures, fishing trips, family celebrations and boating experiences through HYC.

Committee service is an opportunity to give something back to a Club that has given so much to so many.

The future success of Hillarys Yacht Club depends on members who are willing to contribute their experience, passion and fresh ideas.

Consider Nominating
If you care about the future of HYC and would like to play a role in shaping its next chapter, I encourage you to consider nominating for the Management Committee or joining one of our subcommittees.

Your experience, perspective, and enthusiasm could make a real difference.

As we move through autumn and toward winter, there is still plenty happening around your Club. One of the strengths of HYC is that activity never really slows down. Whether it’s on the water, in the marina, at Pinky’s, in the Members Lounge or around the Clubhouse, there is always something happening and our Team continues focusing on improving your member experience.

40th Anniversary Commodore's Ball – Saturday 13 June
Momentum is building for our 40th Ruby Anniversary Commodore’s Ball and it promises to be a fantastic evening celebrating the history and community of Hillarys Yacht Club.

With premium wines, entertainment and a specially crafted menu, it will be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with fellow members and celebrate four decades of HYC.

Tickets are available now at $140 per person, including drinks, and we encourage members to secure their place.

Member Survey – Thank You
Thank you to members who have already completed our Member Satisfaction Survey. Feedback continues to come through and the insights are extremely valuable.

If you have not completed it yet, please spare three minutes. It genuinely helps shape future priorities and improvements and remember, participants go into the draw to win one of five $100 F&B vouchers.

You may have noticed a number of small improvements occurring around site recently. We strongly believe that the "1%ers matter"—the little things become big things.

Presentation, maintenance and attention to detail all contribute to creating a Club environment members can be proud of.

Please continue reporting hazards, maintenance items and suggestions as fresh eyes always help.

Winter Boating Season
Winter often provides one of the best opportunities for lift and cleans, servicing and preventative maintenance. If your vessel needs attention, now may be the perfect opportunity to get ahead before the warmer weather returns.

Most people know Hillarys Boat Harbour opened in 1988, but fewer know the original marina development transformed what was largely coastal scrubland into one of Perth’s most recognised boating and tourism destinations. Today, HYC sits right in the centre of one of WA’s premier waterfront communities.

What a couple of months it has been! March and April have been absolutely buzzing at HYC – big events, great crowds, and plenty of good times. Here’s a look at what’s been happening and what’s coming up.

April has been a cracking month at HYC – here are some of the standouts:

Harbour Classic – a huge success! What a fantastic event on the water, thank you to everyone who took part and made it such a memorable occasion.

Anzac Day – a meaningful and well-attended day at the club. Thank you to all who joined us to mark the occasion.

A beautiful wedding celebration – congratulations to the happy couple, what a stunning night at the club!

SheSails Shines at Hillarys Yacht Club

On Saturday 9 May, Hillarys Yacht Club hosted a vibrant SheSails event, celebrating women in sailing in a fun, friendly and safe environment.

With a warm, sunny afternoon and light to moderate offshore winds, 70 participants across 11 boats enjoyed a beautiful two-hour sail. One participant shared, “It was the perfect introduction—relaxed, welcoming and such a stunning day on the water.”

SheSails encourages women of all ages and experience levels to get involved, while promoting participation, connection and opportunities within local sailing clubs.

After sailing, 46 guests and participants gathered in the Members’ Lounge for canapés, wines and cocktails. The social setting allowed attendees to connect and learn more about sailing opportunities at HYC. As one guest noted, “I’m leaving inspired and excited to get more involved.”

A sincere thank you to the skippers and crew who volunteered their boats for this special event.

SheSails continues to celebrate and grow female participation in sailing—both on and off the water.

There’s something special about Hillarys Yacht Club, and it’s not just the boats, the marina, the events or the view across the water. It’s the people. What makes HYC unique is that it belongs to you. Clubs like ours don’t thrive because of facilities alone, they thrive because of connection. The conversations at the bar, the friendships formed on the water, the volunteers who give their time, and the staff who care about delivering something more than just service.

New Menus
Chef Clinton and the F&B Committee are excited to launch new menus across all outlets in early May, so stay tuned and get ready to enjoy. We recognise that HYC F&B should offer good value and quality while not operating at a loss, so we have kept any price increases at a minimum.

Vehicle Sponsor Opportunity
We are looking for an Official Vehicle Partner to become the face of our Marina, Club, On-Water, and event operations. This is a high-impact "mobile billboard" play; the partner vehicle will be used daily in the local suburbs and across our Clubhouse grounds.

Importantly, the brand will be featured at major events like the BIA WA Boat Show, Pot of Gold Sailing Regatta, and the Harbour Classic, putting you in front of our 2,000+ members and the 3,000–5,000 visitors we see onsite and online each week.

HYC is the ideal location for vehicle launches VIP customer cocktails at sunset, summer functions, team bonding, and special VIP vehicle deliveries.

Did you know?
Marmion Avenue is named after Captain Marmion, an early settler and pastoralist—not the marine park. The road actually gave its name to the surrounding area, not the other way around.

Hillarys is named after Bertram Hillary, an early landowner in the 1930s, but the area remained largely bushland and farmland until the harbour development in the late 1980s transformed it into the coastal hub it is today.

We are excited to launch new menu's throughout the Club!

First off the bat will be the Bring Your Mates Menu. From Wednesday 13 May, we are launching a bigger Bring Your Mates Menu plus a food and drink bundle price!

Hello from the F&B Team!

What a couple of months it has been! March and April have been absolutely buzzing at HYC – big events, great crowds, and plenty of good times. Here’s a look at what’s been happening and what’s coming up.

April has been a cracking month at HYC – here are some of the standouts:

Harbour Classic – a huge success! What a fantastic event on the water, thank you to everyone who took part and made it such a memorable occasion.

Anzac Day – a meaningful and well-attended day at the club. Thank you to all who joined us to mark the occasion.

A beautiful wedding celebration – congratulations to the happy couple, what a stunning night at the club!

Wanneroo District Cricket Club Senior Awards Night – 120 guests celebrating in style
Graduate Teachers Conference – wrapping up across April with 100+ educators through the venue.

Harbour Room Dance Floor Upgrade
Exciting news – the Harbour Room dance floor is being refinished at the end of May. A fresh new look for one of our favourite spaces – watch out for the big reveal!

We’re launching a brand new lunch menu in the Members Lounge on 22 May. Come in, grab a seat and try something fresh – we think you’re going to love it.

Introducing: Hightide Thursdays
We’re excited to launch Hightide Thursdays – a brand new monthly event in the Members Lounge, kicking off on Thursday 21 May. Featuring a De Bortoli wine tasting from 11:30am paired with a great lunch – come in, unwind and enjoy the views!

Membership Renewals
The Club offers a monthly and quarterly payment plan option if you this makes life easier for you. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please reach out to me, or contact Leanne in confidence, at our helpful accounts department at leanne@hillarysyachtclub.com.au

Financial Performance
For the first time in many years the Club has not had to use its overdraft facility in the Financial Year for 2025/26. This is largely due to strong financial oversight, budgeting, expense controls, fundraising and sponsorships and increased membership patronage. Thank you to all members who continue to invest their time and patronage into the Club.

New Pizza Oven is on the way
We expect to take delivery of a new Pizza Oven for Pinky’s Wet Bar in the next week or so. This will mean faster production of those delicious pizza’s we all love.

Electrolysis in the Marina
Pen holders are reminded that Electrolysis (galvanic corrosion) in the marina can be minimised by ensuring all vessels have correctly installed and maintained sacrificial anodes, compliant shore power connections, and isolation transformers. Regular inspections, eliminating stray currents, and enforcing electrical standards across all pens are critical to protecting boats and infrastructure.

Just off Hillarys, the waters around Marmion Marine Park were Western Australia’s very first marine park, created in 1987. Stretching along the coast north and south of Hillarys Boat Harbour, it protects reefs, seagrass meadows, dolphins, sea lions, and hundreds of fish species. So next time you head out from HYC, you’re boating beside one of WA’s most important marine environments.
