Winter Race 1 Re-sail August 15

An easterly breeze that varied in strength from ten to fifteen knots and finally fading was a welcome break from the recent wild weather for the re-sail of the first winter race from Hillarys Yacht Club on August 15th.
Returning from the offshore competition Mulberry was skippered by owner Mark Pitt’s daughter Caroline to finish first in division one just holding off Whispering Jack (Bruce Bradford) who was fastest and Surfer Rosa (Roric Smith). The win for Mulberry was some comfort given they blew out the genoa in the stronger winds before the race started. Dolphins played with Whispering Jack as the photo testifies.
In division two Mark Taylor on Helga recorded both a first and fastest ahead of Volant (John Ball, Emille Janssen, Frank Hagemann and Kevin Meta) with Show Me in third place.
Less than a minute separated first and second in division three with Hard Evidence (Peter Hibberd) just ahead of Vaya Con Dios (Chris Blackney) and both well clear of Intuition (Marc Carpenter) in third place. Real Thing, a new boat in the club, Darren Marshall’s Noelex 25, a trailer-sailer, fared well against the bigger keel boats and should be tasting success in the future.
