Consistency Race (Re-sail)
There was a change of plans for the keelboats racing from Hillarys Yacht Club on Sunday 13th March. With little wind evident, the Race Committee chose to abandon the man overboard (race not the man) and re-sail a consistency race lost to strong winds earlier in the season. It was a popular decision for the five knot westerly was just enough to get around a shortened course after three very competitive starts for the divisions.
In division one Sophia (Bruce Utting) broke away after early tussles with Circa (Martin Eyer) and Adams Rib (Rob Giraudo and Bob Mason) to finish in that order across the line and on handicap.
Covert Operation (Graham Atkinson and Bart Brouwer) relished the conditions to build a significant lead over Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) and Farrouk (Des and Gail Riley) recording fastest time however missed first place by just seven seconds. Blue Chip’s win was a fitting celebration for Deb Fisk returning to the boat for the first time this season. Farrouk was third, less than a minute off first place.
In division three Damian and Kerry Martin celebrated a big win on handicap and was also second across the line but by just eleven seconds. Mimosa (Tony Brooke), with more miles under the keel after the three week Bunbury cruise, was second; fastest on the day, Hard Evidence (Peter Hibberd) was third.
