Consistency Race 3 2020

Hillarys Yacht Club held the third race of the eight race summer series on Sunday November 22nd in a fluky and dying south-easterly until the strong sea breeze filled in catching crews unawares. In the space of a couple of minutes crews that were trimming spinnakers trying to get air into them found themselves hanging on for dear life as sails flogged and boats rounded up. In her swan song race the catamaran Sally Malay (Ian Walker) was languishing in last place until the strong breeze hit then she took off hitting twenty knots as she passed half the fleet to finish sixth.
In a fine display of picking the wind shifts before the mayhem, Ian Holder on Bad Habits sailed through the fleet of division one yachts to be second over the line and first on handicap. Equally impressive was Deckchairs Overboard with Neil Harrison at the helm recording fastest time and second on handicap with Perle third.
Making the most of the sea breeze in division two was Volant (Emille Janssen, Frank Hagemann, John Ball, Kevin Meta) in first place followed by Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) and Farrouk (Lee Burrows and Rod Hernaman). Covert Operation (Graham Atkinson and Bart Brouwer) was fastest.
Larraine Brindle on Stelfred extended her winning streak in division three with Tosca (Stuart Marks and Leigh Collins) second and Intuition (Marc Carpenter) third. Salamander with John Swift skippering was fastest.
