Fairway Ocean Race
A strong sea breeze was just what the doctor ordered to bring home the fleet under spinnaker after they had battled half way to Rottnest in the annual Fairway ocean race on Sunday.
The two premium division one yachts of HYC had a classic battle out front for line honours with Wayne Pitcher’s Lithium finishing just nine seconds ahead of Roric Smith’s Surfer Rosa who was also second on handicap. Seachange (Hugh Burton, David Boyd, Cass Castalanelli, John Gregory) won the race with Lithium third. Hugh and Cass even had time to take a couple of photos which are attached.
In division two Blue Chip (Keith and Deborah Fisk) was a clear winner from fastest on the day Covert Operation (Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson) with Volant (Kevin Meta, Emille Janssen, John Ball, Frank Hagemann) third. Helga, Mark Taylor and the crew made a welcome return to racing after getting the mast back up again.
After four hours of racing for the division three fleet only a few minutes separated the placegetters with Sensei (Brett and Lynda Bailey) taking the honours from First Impression (Ron Marian and Allen Sharman) who was fastest and solo sailor Chris Blackney on Vaya Con Dios.
