North Coast Series Day 3
A very weak south-westerly threatened racing on day 3 of the North Coast Series however with hope of a better breeze already at Rottnest reaching Mullaloo the fleet drifted off the start-line for the first race.
A very healthy fleet of eleven yachts in division one (and six in division two) from ORSSC and HYC took more than an hour to complete the two lap course. It would have been longer if not for the arrival of a twenty knot westerly just as the last boats reached the windward mark, which sent them hurtling to the finish line under spinnaker. The second race was abandoned and added to day 4 of racing on February 21.
Jeremy Leitch on Bull Bar revelled in the light conditions to record a first and fastest for ORSSC and was backed up by Ian James on Taurus making a welcome return and finishing second in division one. Leda (Frank Centa) also from ORSSC was fourth. HYC was struggling with Salamander (John Swift) best placed in third place followed by Perle fifth, Bad Habits sixth and Sophia seventh.
In division two HYC made some inroads with Show Me (Tim Tucker) second and Volant (Emille Janssen, John Ball, Frank Hagemann, Kevin Meta) third however Louisa (Ken and Helen Wood) was first and Quicksilver (Terry O’Grady) fourth for ORSSC.
The twenty six point lead that HYC took into the day was whittled back to just one point at the end of racing for the day making days four and five to come crucial for both Clubs. Well done to ORSSC and a big thank you to the start team and mark-laying RIBs for their patience and persistence.
