Racing At Last
Goldilocks weather prevailed for the third winter race after the first race was abandoned with too little wind and the second scheduled race was impacted by the stormy weather a fortnight ago and was postponed. On Sunday July 11 the ten knot east-nor-easterly was just right for the Hillarys Yacht Club 22 boat fleet albeit the wind did gust to twenty knots as a prelude to the impending storm.
In division one Ian Holder on Bad Habits prevailed with Perle second and Dart Vader (Scott Eiszle and Neil Ireland) third.
Volant (Emille Janssen, Frank Hagemann, John Ball and Kevin Meta) risked all carrying their spinnaker along the edge of the reef for the glory of first with Sheer Magic (Tony Waymouth) second and Helga (Mark Taylor) third in division two.
The traditional handicap start meant if boats sailed well they would potentially finish at the same time and in division three Peter Hibberd on Hard Evidence crossed the line three seconds ahead of Laraine Brindle on Stelfred and two minutes ahead of Salamander (John Swift).
