Hillarys Yacht Club held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday morning to receive reports from the officers and to acknowledge significant achievements for season 2017-18.
Junior Sports Star
Bryce Taylor hasn’t been in the Laser 4.7 class very long but already has shown great progress. He was placed third in the HYC Sail Easter Regatta, the Royal Perth Mini Series and importantly was also third in the State Championships. Well done Bryce!
Senior Sports Star
Todd Giraudo, together with crew David White are no strangers to success sailing the yacht Kraken, a Sunfast 3600 in double handed races. This year they sailed the boat to Melbourne to compete in the race to Hobart where they were placed second on IRC. This was the lead-up to the 5500nm race from Melbourne to Osaka in Japan which took 33 days and in which they came second on IRC. A remarkable achievement given the size of the yacht, the distance and the cyclone weather. Congratulations Todd!
CLub Person of the year
Bart Brouwer recently retired as Keelboat Racing Captain after 5 years of service. Bart gives a helping hand in many areas of club life including dinghy race management, ocean marks recovery and club records. He isn’t really retiring haven taken on the role of Treasurer of the Keel section. He still finds time to sail and with friend Graham Atkinson won Club Champion in Covert Operation last season.
