Angling
The Angling Section is a friendly, family orientated group of members of varying ages and lifestyles who are actively involved in recreational and competitive fishing, whether it be from a boat or beach.
There are weekly fishing trips, monthly Boat Angling competitions, four Beach Competitions and the open Harbour Classic event. The venues for the Beach Competitions will be decided by the members at the Section Meetings and include a weekend away event to places such as Busselton or Cervantes.
The season runs from July to June, culminating with the annual Angling Presentation Dinner.
All Club members are invited to join in the activities of the Angling Section.

If you do not have a boat to go out fishing, don’t worry! The Club vessel Alibi is generally involved in regular fishing trips and boat competitions.
The weekly inshore fishing trips on Wednesdays start at 7 am, with the boat returning by 2 pm. Cost depends on the running time of the boat motor. Please note this price is approx $80 Adult and $45 Junior. This price can change depending on number of people. This must be booked 3 days prior to departure. Please note there is a minimum of 8 people, otherwise it will be rescheduled to another day. Please contact Linda El Battal at [email protected] if interested.
The monthly Boat Angling Competition generally takes place on the third Sunday of the month (Refer to the Angling Calendar below for confirmation). Anglers need to bring their fishing gear and bait, lunch, chair and drink. Please note this price is approx $80 Adult and $45 Junior. This price can change depending on number of people. There is no cost for Anglers using their own boats.
Please sign on at the wet bar before 7 am on the day to participate. Weigh-in starts at 4 pm at the wet bar.
Members intending to go out fishing on the Club boat need to reserve their place in the boat book at HYC reception up to one week prior to the fishing day.
The Angling Handbook provides useful information on how the competitions are run, a records list and a calendar of events.
Juniors Welcome
We hold some very popular Junior Fishing Clinics during school holidays. These clinics are an excellent introduction to fishing, teaching your children how to use fishing gear and identify and handle fish. Your children will also be introduced to the concept of ‘fishing for the future' by learning about minimum sizes, bag limits and open and closed seasons for certain species. The clinic closes with a weigh-in for the fish caught.
You and your children are welcome to join the events held by the Angling Section. You will find the members of our section easy to approach and willing to share their knowledge.
