Crewing & Helming - 2 Full Days: Sat/Sun (starting 20/06/26)

Keelboats allow you to learn to sail without the fear of capsizing, and usually with several other people on the boat. Learning to sail in self-righting keelboats (or trailer sailers) provides a learning platform that is stable yet responsive. As your skills progress, you will also develop an understanding of each persons role and how teamwork plays a major part of being an effective crew.

This is an introductory course, the skills covered in this combined introductory course include basic sailing terminology and rules, basic knots, tacking and gybing, preparation of the boat, helm and trim on all points of sail and recovery of man overboard.

If you are keen to get more hours on the water, growing your skills in Crewing, Helming or both, we also have half day sessions for those interested!

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REGISTRATIONS

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REGISTRATIONS

To make a course booking, please use the ‘Book Now’ button to register. This will take you to our Australian Sailing (AS) course registration page. Australian Sailing is the national body for the sport of sailing and Hillarys Yacht Club is a registered Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre. You will need to know the Australian Sailing (AS) number of the sailor participating in the course in order to register that person, or you can create a profile for a new sailor. This profile and number are a unique identifier and stores course information for future reference, accessible by yourself and your registered club. It is important that the AS number is created for the person doing the course with their own name and details as they will keep this number for the lifetime of their journey in the sport of sailing.
